Knowledge of how occupational hygiene and health are practised in other parts of the world will make you look at your context differently. For example, some African countries where NWU is involved in projects do not have legislative exposure limits or requirements for sampling programs to measure exposure. How you function in this context to try and reduce worker exposure is different from how you function in a country where you have specific legislative requirements.

The talk aims to share the context, challenges, and opportunities in occupational hygiene and health in South Africa. Dr. Stefan Linde will also share some of the interesting projects OHHRI conducted in Southern Africa.

Het 32e NVvA-symposium
'Turbulentie: Nieuwe kansen, nieuwe uitdagingen'

Woensdag 10 en donderdag 11 april 2024 wordt het 32e NVvA-symposium georganiseerd op de vertrouwde locatie Woudschoten in Zeist.

We bevinden ons in een tijdperk waarin technologieën in een razend tempo evolueren, wat enorme mogelijkheden biedt voor ons vak. Binnen ons werkveld krijgen we steeds meer te maken met technologische ontwikkelingen en innovaties als robots/cobots, kunstmatige intelligentie (bijvoorbeeld ChatGPT), virtual reality, 3D-printen en nog veel meer. Deze ontwikkelingen hangen samen met (globale) uitdagingen zoals klimaatverandering, nieuwe materialen, de energietransitie en economische vooruitzichten.

Dit alles voltrekt zich in een hoog tempo en de verwachte impact is groot. Tegelijkertijd bieden ze zowel kansen als risico’s voor gezond en veilig werken. Wat betekent dit alles voor ons vakgebied en voor u als arbeidshygiënist? Het symposium zal u hierin nieuwe inzichten en tools geven, daarom nodigen wij u van harte uit!

Uiteraard is het ook weer een uitgelezen moment om oude bekenden te zien, nieuwe contacten te leggen, te genieten van de heerlijke barista-koffie en -thee en nog veel meer.

De ignite sessies zijn een vast onderdeel van het programma geworden, tien sprekers delen in slechts 5 minuten hun ervaringen uit het vakgebied.

Wegens het succes van vorig jaar zijn er opnieuw een drietal Professionele Bijscholings Cursussen met aansluitend avondprogramma incl. diner op dinsdag 9 april. Voor de PBC's geldt een minimaal aantal deelnemers van 6, het maximaal aantal deelnemers is 25. Meld je snel aan want vol = vol!

The chemicals adjust or hormonal balance and are present in a wide range of sectors such as agriculture, construction, cleaning, textile production, beaty and skin care, recycling,… Legally they are mentioned right next to carcinogenic substances.

Industrie en omwonenden: een toxische relatie?

Achtergrond

Op 13 april jl. publiceerde de Onderzoeksraad voor Veiligheid het rapport Industrie en Omwonenden. Daarin werden situaties onder de loep genomen waar omwonenden last hebben van industrie (Tata Steel, Chemours en APN). Deze knelpuntsituaties hebben veel aandacht gekregen in landelijke en lokale media.

De onderzoeksraad was hard in haar conclusies en gaf aan dat omwonenden onvoldoende beschermd worden. Ze stelde dat omwonenden in sommige gevallen worden blootgesteld aan schadelijke hoeveelheden van stoffen, dat overheden en bedrijven te reactief zijn en dat er een groot wantrouwen is bij omwonenden naar overheid en bedrijven. Ze adviseert een meer open en actieve houding van bedrijven. Daarnaast roept ze lokale overheden en omgevingsdiensten op om beter de huidige tools gebruiken om toezicht te houden en te handhaven. Daarvoor is wel een beter kennisniveau nodig zodat het een gelijk speelveld blijft tussen bedrijven enerzijds en lokale overheden en toezichthouders anderzijds.

Risques physiques : de la détection à l’action

Après l’ergonomie en 2022, la conférence SOFHYT traitera des autres agents physiques, à savoir bruit, lumière, ultrasons, champs électromagnétiques, vibrations, stress thermique, rayonnements ionisants et non ionisants. Le thème de ces journées sera : Risques physiques : de la détection à l’action.

Avec la participation de l’INRS, de l’OPPBTP, de la société Exposum mais aussi de fournisseurs tels que Cotral, RG Group.
Des stands égayeront les pauses de ces journées et permettront encore plus d’échanger.
