Invitation and Welcome

May we invite you to join the 40th Annual Meeting of the United Kingdom Environmental Mutagen Society (UKEMS 2017) on Sunday 25th to Wednesday 28th June 2017 in Leuven, Belgium. This meeting is a joint meeting with the Dutch and Belgium Environmental Mutagen Societies and will be the first time UKEMS have ventured outside of the United Kingdom. We hope to be able to reinforce many of the great links our societies have traditionally enjoyed and to take the opportunity to forge new alliances with our near neighbors.

The meeting will cover all aspects in relation to DNA damage and mutations caused by environmental agents and will focus on new technologies and innovative modalities. The venue of the conference is the Park Inn hotel, Leuven, Belgium. This is close to the center of the picturesque Burgundian town (famous for its world renowned university as well as its world renowned breweries) and within easy access to the intercity rail station (Brussels airport and Eurostar station are only about 30 minutes away). The program consists of a large variety of invited speakers and keynote lectures. Selected abstracts will be chosen for short oral presentations. Special symposiums will be organised by the societies Industrial, Molecular Epidemiological and Genome Stability groups along with a dedicated new investigator symposium. In addition, we will have poster sessions and we kindly invite all participants to present their work. All abstracts will be published online in the journal Mutagenesis. Presentation prizes will be awarded based on their scientific merit, judged by an eminent panel. Participation of young scientists will be particularly welcome and the societies will offer the opportunity for students to apply for reduced conference rates. Furthermore, for eligible students who can showcase their science as a selected poster or short podium presentation, there is the opportunity to apply for bursaries to cover the full meeting costs. So get your cutting edge mutation research together and join us in Leuven for free! See the UKEMS website for further details.

Social events will include a planned barbecue at a local brewery and the conference dinner at the impressive De Hoorn Cafe (this is the former Stella Artois building, so no prizes for guessing our social theme!). We look forward to welcoming you to Leuven for an enjoyable and successful conference showcasing the best in mutagen research in the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and beyond.
